Biotech Department Hosts Potential Collaborations Workshop

The Biotechnology Department has hosted a "Potential Collaborations Workshop where some organisations and individuals presented some potential research projects and areas with the intend of establishing collaborations with the university.

According to the Chairperson of the Biotechnology Department Dr. A. Musengi, the objective of this session was to interrogate the various proposals and projects so as to assess the feasibility of their collaboration with the University, as the Institute is embracing a multi-disciplinary approach to project implementation.

The potential areas and projects presented include a project presented by Chengetai Dungai entitled "Advanced De-fluoridation Technologies (fluorosis mitigation in Zimbabwe and SADC) Project which is backed by the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development. Matthias Mugoni of Abaris Health presented a collaborative partnership proposal with HIT on the research, production and commercialisation of medical kits, while the Zimbabwe Science Laboratory Technicians Trust (ZSLT) made a presentation on its operations and possible areas of colloaboration with HIT.

The workshop was attended by Dean Eng. P. Muredzi, Professor L. Tichagwa, Eng. L. Duri, Dr A. Musengi, Deputy Finance Director S. Buruwe, staff and students from the School of Industrial Sciences and Technology.
