VIT University of India Deepens Cooperation with HIT

Following the recent enrolment of HIT staff development fellows at the VIT University of Vellore, the Indian institution has upped the tempo and is seeking to strengthen partnership and collaboration with HIT.

Dr. C Vijayakumar, the Director of International Relations of VIT University recently visited HIT to further explore other ways of strengthening the existing international partnership between the two institutions especially in areas of handling academic programmes and courses; organising seminars, workshops and conferences including the exchange of mutual experiences in teaching, research and industrial practice.

In a meeting with HIT Senior Management, the two parties agreed that joint programmes in Research and Development including exchange of publications and reports are also set to begin between the two partners.

Teaching staff from VIT University shall come to conduct lessons in interdisciplinary areas of specialisation of high relevance to both institutions for about three to four months or the entire semester. "In the meantime, we can work out a twinning arrangement where students or staff from HIT can study for the first year here and the other year in India", said Dr. C. Vijayakumar.

The partnership has already implemented the immediate areas of cooperation, which are capacity building, and the establishment of collaborative programmes at M.Tech/Ph.D/D.Tech level, as there are a number of fellowships students from HIT in studying in India.

Dr. C. Vijayakumar also emphasized need to start the creation of Centres of Excellence in specialised fields of mutual interest in Science, Engineering, Technology  and Managementwhich is of high priority issue of the aims and form of cooperation between the two universities.

"I am delighted VIT is in partnership with such an institution like HIT which is focusing on development of research, developing, incubating, transferring, and commercialising technology", said Dr. C. Vijayakumar.

VIT University, commonly called Vellore Institute of Technology or VIT is an Indian University. It was established under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956, was founded in 1984 as a self-financing institution called the Vellore Engineering College. It was conferred University status in 2001. It has campuses both at Vellore and Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It has nine schools/faculties and is frequently ranked among the top technology research universities in India.

VIT has consolidated its disciplines into nine "Schools of Study." Research centers are part of the schools, to encourage collaboration amongst the research and coursework areas and to provide opportunity for coursework students to participate in research projects. The University organizes many industrial workshops like Automotive Engineering workshops which was organized by ParaMek Technologies in GraVitas Fest and similar other workshops.
