GRADUATION CEREMONY 2015

 

INFORMATION FOR GRADUANDS

 

DATE / TIME / VENUE

The Ceremony will be held at the Harare Institute of Technology Campus, on Friday 6 November, 2015.

The Ceremony will start at 0800 hours and is expected to last two hours.  Graduands should be seated by 0800 hours.

 

SEATING

There will be reserved seating for graduands, and separate reserved sections for VIPs and staff.  The graduands’ seats will be arranged by School, in alphabetical order.  Seats will be reserved for each individual graduand and each graduand must be seated in the seat reserved for him/her by 0800 hours.

Guests for graduands may sit in any of the unreserved seats, but not in the sections reserved for graduands or staff or VIPs.  These sections will be clearly signposted.

 

DRESS

Men should wear a suit, preferably dark, with a plain shirt and a dark tie. Women should wear a white blouse and a dark skirt/trousers (a jacket may be worn over the blouse if desired) or a dark dress.

All graduands who are to be presented to the Chancellor must wear full academic dress/regalia i.e. appropriate gown, hood and cap. Those with inappropriate academic dress will be excluded from the graduation proceedings.

 

PURCHASE OF ACADEMIC DRESS

The approved HIT academic dress is strictly obtainable from the Registration and Student Records Management Office upon submission of a receipt from the Finance Office. 

The price is US$65.00 for the complete set of academic dress/regalia, namely the black gown, black cap and hood. The payment should be deposited into the Institute’s CBZ Account number 02420583120037,Sapphire Branch, Harare and the original deposit slip must be submitted to the Finance Office.

 

GRADUATION FEE

You are required to pay a Graduation fee of US$50.00 by the day of rehearsals. This fee caters for your refreshments and graduation expenses. The Graduation fee must be deposited into the Institute’s CBZ Account already given.

 

OUTSTANDING FEES

Graduands who owe the University should clear the outstanding amounts with the Finance Office well before Graduation Day. Those who were on cadetship should make sure that they have cleared their ancillary fees balances.

 

GUESTS

Each graduand may invite up to two guests. It must be stressed that this is the maximum number of guests allowable, who may be accommodated in the seats reserved for graduands’ guests. 

Admission into the Ceremony area will be by invitation card only and anyone reporting without an invitation card will not be admitted.  Your invitation card and those for your two guests can be collected from the Registration and Student Records Section by the rehearsals day.

 

PHOTOGRAPHERS

No other photographers will be allowed to take photographs when granduands are being capped except the Harare Institute of Technology Photographers and those accredited by the University.

 A video for the whole graduation proceedings would be available for sale, from the Communications Office.

Once the Ceremony has started, the only persons allowed into the front area of the main platform will be the Institute’s official photographers, television crew, and officials.


REHEARSALS

Rehearsals will be held in the morning, on Thursday 5 November 2015, starting at 1100 hours, at the Institute Campus. All graduands must put on their full academic dress during rehearsals and this exercise must be accorded the importance it deserves. In this regard all those who do not attend the rehearsals will be excluded from participating in the Graduation Ceremony.


REFRESHMENTS

After the Platform Party has left, the Deputy Registrar - Academic Affairs will make announcements. Ushers will direct you and your guests to the area designated to you and your guests, where refreshments will be served.

 

ISSUING OF DEGREE CERTIFICATES AND TRANSCRIPTS

Degree Certificates and Transcripts will be available from your School Administrator after the Ceremony.  To collect your certificate and transcript, you must produce acceptable identification document.

The Institute will withhold your certificate and transcript if you are still indebted to it.


CONDUCT

Graduands are requested to conduct themselves in an orderly manner.  Any graduand who will present himself/herself in a drunken state will not be allowed to take part in the Graduation Ceremony.
