Major services include:-<\/p><p><strong>Acquisitions<\/strong>\u00a0in which the library collects information resources through purchases, donations, gifts and exchanges<\/p><p><strong>OPAC<\/strong>\u00a0(Online Public Access Catalogue) which provides details of resources in stock and their location in the library. You are also able to interact with your circulation account with regards to books you borrowed: when they are due, those already overdue including fines to be paid.<\/p><p><strong>Circulation Service<\/strong>\u00a0which requires membership registration to access different library services including borrowing privileges. Currently registered students and Staff of HIT are allowed to borrow (see loan periods on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hit.ac.zw\/library\/loans.html\">Borrowing<\/a>). The Library uses a fully automated library management system and makes use of student ID cards as borrowing tickets. Borrowers need to carry their valid HIT ID cards each time they want to take out books. Note that these ID cards are not exchangeable. It is therefore an offence to try to borrow material from the library using someone else\u2019s ID card.<\/p><p><strong>Reference Service<\/strong>\u00a0For all your inquiries including assistance with searching the OPAC and access to e-resources, digital material such as past examination papers, theses and dissertations as well as capstone design projects by students, use the reference service desk.<\/p><p>Access\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hit.ac.zw\/library\/faq.html\">FAQs\u00a0<\/a>(frequently asked questions) through the reference service desk<\/p><p><strong>Orientation<\/strong>\u00a0in which new students ( and anyone else in need) are given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with information resources and services they will be using throughout the duration of their study programmes. This is provided at the beginning of each new academic year and is continued whenever a need arises.
