HIT Observes National Clean Up Day

The Harare Institute of Technology joined Zimbabwe in observing the National Clean up Day this morning at the University campus in Belvedere.

While the University engaged in an exercise to maintain cleanliness, a plan was rolled out which will see respective departments and schools crafting waste management strategies specific to their line of work.

The University’s Environmental Management, Renewable Energy and Climate Change Research Centre has called for the sustainable management of waste by ensuring the minimum generation of waste,- and that the little generated is used as feedstock in other processes. Acting Director of the Centre, Dr Anthony Phiri said such a system will ensure the presence of an environmental management system on campus, reflective of the University’s unique technological mandate.

On the first Friday of each month, the University’s departments and schools will showcase their waste management strategies, which will be implemented in maintaining a healthy and safe environment.

The Vice Chancellor of HIT, Eng. Q.C. Kanhukamwe has pledged his commitment to the Presidential Declaration on anti –litter, and to maintaining a litter –free environment conducive for students and staff.
