Chinese Delegation Visits HIT

A Chinese delegation from the Haidian District in northwestern Beijing paid a visit to the Harare Institute of Technology to explore and enhance opportunities for cooperation between the University and research institutions in Haidain.

Head of the Chinese delegation Mr Yun Jun, Secretary of the Communist Party of China in Haidian District said that they are ready to partner and collaborate with HIT on a number of areas that are critical for the rapid industrialisation of Zimbabwe. "We are a government delegation visiting Zimbabwe to enhance cooperation between the People's Republic of China and Zimbabwe. We therefore, need to set up a framework within a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to map the way forward. We are going to share all the information that we are gathering here with our research institutions in Haidian", said Mr Jun.

In his address to the delegation, HIT vice Chancellor Engineer Q.C Kanhukamwe said HIT is ready to work together with the Chinese in technology development, incubation, transfer and commercialisation. "We are keen to start working together in areas such as the local production of pharmaceutical drugs, nanotechnology, blockchain technology and genomics diagnostics", said Eng. Kanhukamwe.

The meeting was also attended by Professor Charles Maponga, former Director of the University of Zimbabwe School of Pharmacy and Clinical trials who explored the available opportunities to enhance the local pharmaceutical industry manufacturing capacity in producing affordable drugs. Some government and ZANU PF delegates also attended the meeting including some members of the HIT Senior Management.
