First Capital Bank Zimbabwe has handed-over sanitisers manufacturing equipment to boost the manufacturing of sanitizers in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The equipment consists of eight 5000 litre containers and four booster pumps worth over ZWL$500 000, which will go a long way in boosting the production capacity to 40 000 litres a day.
Speaking during the virtual handover ceremony conducted on ZOOM, HIT Vice Chancellor Eng. Quinton Kanhukamwe expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude for the donation by First Capital Bank to HIT that will boost the manufacturing of sanitizers in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. “
“The manufacturing of sanitisers by our university is one other of many attempts to deal with the pandemic. Universities should intervene in times of national crisis as hotspots for solutions not only in Zimbabwe but globally. As HIT, we have heeded this call by His Excellency, President E.D Mnangagwa that we should come up with solutions to national and global challenges, “said Eng. Kanhukamwe.
The Vice Chancellor also added that HIT is aspiring to play a leading role in the fight against COVID-19 by manufacturing the sanitizers in line with international best standards as well as pursuing other research areas. “I would like to thank First Capital Bank Limited for this donation that will go a long way in boosting our production capacity, which will rise to 40 000 litres a day.
“The money generated will be used to fund research and development and innovation activities at HIT. We shall also use some of the funds to support the production of ventilators development by HIT.
“We are also proud of one of our innovation, the national COVID-19 Alert Reporting Management System (CAMS) to manage the recording of data related to Covid-19. COVID-19 Alert Reporting Management System (CAMS) is a real-time and cloud-based alert management system that enables users to send alerts through the evaluation of COVID-19 symptoms using a smartphone and is downloadable from the Google App Store.
“More importantly, we have also engaged needy students to work part time in the sanitisers production to earn income to fund their studies at HIT,” said the Vice Chancellor.
He also highlighted that HIT is always ready to establish and enhance cooperation and collaborations with industry and commerce in technology research and development, incubation, transfer and commercialisation of its RDI outputs for rapid national industrialisation.
“I commend First Capital Bank for taking the bold step to support this initiative. I believe this is the beginning of a big relationship which will see both institutions collaborating in other areas as we together contribute to bring the Corona Virus pandemic under control,” said Eng. Kanhukamwe.
Speaking at the same occasion, First Capital Bank Managing Director, Mr Ciaran McSharry promised to enhance further collaborations and partnerships with HIT in various fields.
