IWB to Help Fundraising HIT COVID-19 Projects

Science and Advanced Global Innovation Technologies (SAGIT), under its “INNOVATION WITHOUT BOUNDARIES” initiative has committed to fundraising and commercialising the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) COVID-19 projects through crowd funding and other campaigns.

Macheka said his organisation is committed help source for funds to support COVID-19 disaster management innovations by the academia in Zimbabwe.

“We are very happy that we have seen what is on the ground and we really appreciate your innovations. We pledge our support to help you fundraise for your innovations”, he said.

Mr Macheka said it is heart-warming to learn that HIT is manufacturing a ventilator unit and it is a huge leap in the innovation narrative in Zimbabwe. “We are pride to partner such innovations in Zimbabwe as it is our resolve to promote a link between industry and commerce with institutions of higher learning in Zimbabwe”, he said.

“Innovation Without Boundaries” is a platform created by Science and Advanced Global Innovation Technologies (SAGIT) to raise targeted funds towards national disasters such as the current COVI-19 pandemic.

The Science and Advanced Global Innovation Technologies (SAGIT) delegation comprising officials from the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Sciences and Technology Development, Ministry of youth, Arts and Sport, artists and the media toured the HIT campus where a team of HIT engineers presented the institution's COVID-19 disaster management innovations.

Following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) in collaboration with various partners has developed three notable COVID-19 interventions. These include a ventilator unit which is currently undergoing clinical tests.

HIT is also producing bulk sanitizers for distribution around the country against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The latest innovation is the national COVID-19 Alert Reporting Management System (CAMS) to manage the recording of data related to Covid-19.

COVID-19 Alert Reporting Management System (CAMS) is a real-time and cloud-based alert management system that enables users to send alerts through the evaluation of COVID-19 symptoms using a smartphone. It also allows the users to report any death from their communities in addition to assisting healthcare personnel to view the geographical distribution of the reported cases and community deaths due to corona virus infection or other sicknesses.
