The Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Honourable Professor Amon Murwira has called for cooperation between the Indo-Zim Technology Centre and the Harare Institute of Technology in order to boost production.
The Minister was on a familiarisation tour of the Indo-Zim Technology Centre which is premised at the Harare Institute of Technology's Tie and Dye Workshop. He called for close cooperation between the technology centre and the university in the design and production of industrial tools, machines and other products.
"The Indo-Zim Technology Centres are now under the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, and we are very happy to welcome you under my ministry. You are now within the ecosystem of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, where we are not expecting to receive jobs but to do jobs so that we cause industry, designing and producing products," said the Minister in his brief address to the Indo-Zim staff.
THE Indo-Zim Technology Centres were established in 2009, when Zimbabwe and India launched the $5 million Indo-Zim Technology Transfer Project for the development of Small and Medium Enterprises in the country through the commissioning of state-of-the-art technology production and manufacturing centres in Harare and Bulawayo. Fourteen other centres were established in different parts of the country including one centre in Chitungwiza. These centres have contributed significantly to the growth and development of the Small and Medium Enterprises, making the country substitute some of the imported goods.
Professor Murwira also toured the construction site of the HIT's Innovation Hub which is nearing completion. He was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary Professor Fanuel Tagwira and other officials from the Ministry and Indo-Zim Technology Centres.
