Bachelor of Technology Honours Degree in Electronic Commerce

The Bachelor of Technology Honours Degree in Electronic Commerce Programme provides a unique opportunity to learn about and understand the fundamental issues of electronic commerce and the real opportunities of doing business in an increasingly networked global environment. This programme transforms a student into an electronic business authority, tapping from the disciplines of computing sciences, accounting, marketing, technopreneurship and business management with an understanding of the impact of emerging technologies on individuals, organisations and industries.

Programme Objectives

Upon completion of the programme, graduates should be able to:

Demonstrate an understanding of technopreneurs in e-commerce who are able to design and implement e-commerce solutions in both private and public sectors.

Assess, rationalise and market e-commerce solutions so as to expand businesses and technical proficiencies. Apply knowledge and skills of e-commerce to leverage business processes locally and globally.

Entry Qualifications

Entry qualifications into this programme are at least 2 'A' Level passes which should include one of the following: Mathematics, Accounting or Computer Science and any other subject(s) from the following: Business Studies, Economics, Physics or any relevant commercial subjects.

OR a relevant ND or HND

Candidates must comply with section 3.0 of the General Regulations.

Programme Structure

This is a full time programme of study at degree level that is structured to be delivered over four years. The programme integrates business practices and internet technology. It is a practical oriented programme with most courses having a practical component. In the practical sessions the students will be able to integrate the concepts, tools and techniques learned in their coursework to analyze, design and deploy Internet and web-based solutions in E-commerce. Students should master web design and web dynamics of each core course.

Each academic year, with the exception of year 3, is divided into two semesters, with each semester being fifteen weeks in duration. Year 3 is an internship of at least thirty (30) weeks or one academic year where students gain practical experience in the relevant industry.

For year 1, 2 and 4, each academic year normally commences in August and is concluded in May of the following calendar year.
