The Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) warmly welcomed esteemed guests, delegates, faculty members, and promising pharmaceutical students from across Africa to the landmark International Pharmaceutical Leadership Conference being held in Harare from 25 July to 03 August 2025.
The gathering is aimed at shaping the continent’s healthcare future.
In a heartfelt address, HIT’s Pro Vice Chancellor (PVC) for Academic Affairs, Mr Willard Gwarimbo, expressed pride in hosting the event, which is organised in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Pharmaceutical Students Association (ZPSA) and the International Pharmaceutical Students Federation (IPSF) African Regional Office (AFRO). The occasion highlights the importance of nurturing emerging leaders in pharmaceutical sciences to meet Africa’s growing healthcare challenges.
A key highlight of the event was the celebration of the Leaders in Training (LIT) programme, a transformative initiative designed to develop sustainable leadership, management skills, and health advocacy among pharmacy students and graduates worldwide. The programme aligns seamlessly with HIT’s vision of fostering excellence in pharmaceutical education and innovation.
“Today, we recognise that leadership development is essential for shaping global health outcomes,” the PVC noted. “Programmes like LIT are vital in building the capacity of our young professionals to take on critical roles across healthcare systems in Africa.”
The conference underscores the significance of collaboration, innovation, and shared commitment to advancing pharmaceutical sciences across the continent. It provides a platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and professional growth, complementing initiatives like LIT that prepare the next generation of healthcare leaders.
HIT reaffirmed its dedication to excellence in pharmaceutical research, education, and practice, welcoming international guests to explore not only academic opportunities but also Zimbabwe’s rich culture and warm hospitality.
As the event unfolds, attendees are forging new partnerships, inspiring innovative ideas, and renewing their commitment to improving healthcare outcomes in Africa. “As HIT, we are optimistic that this gathering will catalyse impactful change and leadership development”, PVC Gwarimbo added.
“Welcome to Harare Institute of Technology! May your participation here and in programmes like LIT empower you to become the transformative leaders our healthcare systems need,” the PVC concluded.
The event promises to be a landmark occasion in Africa’s journey toward stronger, more resilient health sectors driven by innovative and committed professionals.
The International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation – African Regional Office (IPSF AfRO) was established in 2008 during the 52nd IPSF World Congress in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The Federation currently represents approximately 80,000 pharmacy students and recent graduates across 24 countries in Africa.
As the regional representation for the African countries, IPSF AfRO serves as a platform for pharmacy students across the region to collaborate, share knowledge, and advocate for the advancement of pharmacy education and practice.
