The Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) is proud to announce the appointment of Professor Engineer Quinton Kanhukamwe, Vice Chancellor of HIT, to the Governing Board of the Association of African Universities (AAU). He will represent Southern African member institutions, following his official appointment during the AAU Business Session held at the 16th AAU General Conference in Rabat, Morocco.
This appointment is a prestigious continental endorsement of Professor Eng. Kanhukamwe’s exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing higher education and innovation in Africa. As a seasoned academic leader and strategic thinker, Professor Eng. Kanhukamwe has consistently championed the role of universities in driving industrialisation, technology development, and research-based socio-economic transformation—a vision that aligns seamlessly with both HIT’s institutional mandate and the broader goals of the AAU.
His presence on the AAU Governing Board places HIT at the heart of African higher education policymaking and positions the institution as a strategic contributor to shaping the future of university education on the continent. Through this role, HIT will contribute to key dialogues on curriculum innovation, digital transformation, research capacity building, and regional integration in higher education.
Speaking after the announcement, Professor Eng. Kanhukamwe reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the voice of Southern African universities is not only heard but actively shapes the trajectory of the AAU. “This is both a personal honour and an institutional milestone for HIT. It reflects the growing recognition of our work in driving Education 5.0, and our determination to lead in innovation, industrialisation, and impactful research across Africa,” he said.
The HIT community congratulates Professor Eng. Kanhukamwe on this remarkable achievement and pledges full support as he takes up this vital continental leadership responsibility.
The AAU Governing Board provides strategic oversight and policy direction for the Association, which represents more than 400 higher education institutions across Africa. The Board plays a critical role in steering the AAU’s work in promoting quality assurance, academic mobility, open science, and institutional collaboration on the continent.
