HIT Hosts Successful 2025 Vice Chancellor’s Innovation & Scholarship Fundraising Golf Tournament

The Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) celebrated a day of sport, collaboration, and innovation as it hosted the highly anticipated 2025 Vice Chancellor’s Innovation & Scholarship Fundraising Golf Tournament at Chapman’s Golf Club in Harare on Friday, 01 August 2025.
The event brought together participants from a diverse range of partners, stakeholders, and supporters committed to advancing Zimbabwe’s technological future. In a spirited Four-Ball Format, golfers enjoyed a thrilling round of friendly competition amidst the scenic greens, all while contributing to a vital cause.
Proceeds from the tournament are dedicated to supporting research, scholarships, and cutting-edge projects at HIT, aimed at fostering technology development, incubation, transfer, and commercialisation. These initiatives are central to the nation’s broader vision of modernisation and industrialisation, empowering Zimbabwe to become a competitive player in the global technological arena.
This year’s funds will specifically be channelled towards the construction of the Norton Health Centre, a crucial project designed to enhance healthcare infrastructure and services in the region, further exemplifying HIT’s commitment to societal development.
The tournament saw fierce competition, with notable prize winners. Mr J. Chifamba got the First Prize with 20 handicaps on 39 points. Second Prize went to Mr P. Togarasei with 26 handicaps on 45 points. Nearest to the Pin (Hole 3) was Mr S. Samson, whilst Mr C. Hinde had the longest Drive (Hole 18).
The event also served as a platform for networking among industry leaders, academia, government officials, and business partners, all united by a shared vision to drive innovation and technological growth in Zimbabwe.
Speaking at the event, HIT Vice Chancellor Professor Engineer Quinton Chamunorwa Kanhukamwe emphasised the importance of such initiatives: “This tournament is more than just a game; it’s a strategic investment in Zimbabwe’s future. By supporting research and infrastructure projects like the Norton Health Centre, we are laying the foundation for a technologically empowered and healthier nation.”
The 2025 Vice Chancellor’s Innovation & Scholarship Golf Tournament underscores HIT’s ongoing commitment to fostering innovation, supporting talented youth, and contributing meaningfully to national development. As the day concluded, participants left inspired, knowing their support would help shape Zimbabwe’s technological landscape for generations to come.
