In an extraordinary season of recognition, the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) and its visionary Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eng. Quinton C. Kanhukamwe, have swept multiple prestigious awards, cementing the university’s reputation as a powerhouse of innovation and educational leadership in Africa.
The winning streak began at the glittering Megafest Business Awards ceremony in October, where HIT achieved a spectacular double victory. The university itself was crowned the “Diamond Winner and Outstanding Academic Institution of the Year 2025” for the Northern Region. Simultaneously, Prof. Kanhukamwe was honoured as the “Outstanding Education Leader of the Year 2025”.
The awards, held under the theme “Celebrating Leadership that Inspires Change,” served as a powerful testament to HIT’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, technological innovation, and societal impact. The recognition highlights the institute’s success in nurturing forward-thinking graduates poised to drive industrial and technological transformation.
But the accolades didn’t stop there. Prof. Kanhukamwe’s influential leadership was further celebrated on the continental stage when he received the distinguished “African Educational Leadership Excellence Award” from LEADX Africa. This award, themed “Unleashing African Potential,” acknowledges his profound contributions to advancing higher education and fostering an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship that equips graduates to tackle Africa’s unique challenges.
In a remarkable recognition of leadership and innovation, the HIT Vice Chancellor also received the prestigious African University Excellence and Impact Index Listing (AUEII) Award. This accolade celebrates HIT’s outstanding track record in driving innovation and making significant contributions to the development of Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) across Africa.
The award was announced during the Africa Education Congress, a premier continental gathering that brings together thought leaders, policymakers, academics, innovators, and development partners dedicated to transforming Africa’s education landscape. This high-profile event serves as a platform for showcasing groundbreaking ideas and fostering collaborative efforts to accelerate the continent’s socio-economic growth.
HIT’s Vice Chancellor was also recognised not only for his visionary leadership but also for the university’s role as a catalyst for technological advancement and research-driven solutions that address Africa’s unique challenges. Under his guidance, HIT continues to strengthen its reputation as a hub of innovation, inspiring a new generation of African scientists, engineers, and technopreneurs committed to shaping the future.
Adding another jewel to its crown, HIT also shone at the 2025 Corporate Shared Value (CSV) Awards, being awarded the First Runner-up award in the “Innovation” category. This award, presented by the Institute of Corporate Social Responsibility (ICS), celebrates HIT’s commitment to developing real-world solutions that create meaningful value for communities, from groundbreaking research to dynamic student-led startups.
This prestigious award underscores HIT’s position as a leader in higher education and technological development on the continent. It also highlights the university’s ongoing commitment to excellence, impact, and the advancement of science and technology in Africa.
The accolades are a resounding endorsement of HIT’s strategic direction and vision. Under Prof. Kanhukamwe’s guidance, the university has dramatically expanded its global footprint through partnerships across Africa, Europe, the United States, India and Asia, creating vibrant exchange programmes and joint research initiatives.
