On Thursday, 12 March 2026, the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) welcomed a vibrant cohort of young learners from Watershed College and Waterfalls Junior School. From 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, students and staff participated in an immersive two-hour tour of HIT’s state-of-the-art facilities and innovation workshops, designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world technological application.
The visit formed part of HIT’s ongoing commitment to nurturing the next generation of Zimbabwe’s science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) talent.
Some of the tour highlights included a guided walkthrough of HIT’s innovation hub, workshops and research laboratories, live demonstrations of cutting-edge technology projects by HIT students and staff, interactive sessions showcasing HIT’s role as the leading innovation and technopreneurial university in Zimbabwe, question and answer opportunities for learners to engage directly with HIT researchers and lecturers, and Career guidance conversations for senior students at Watershed College.
Young visitors from Waterfalls Junior School were particularly captivated by hands-on demonstrations in the workshops, with many expressing enthusiasm for pursuing careers in technology and engineering. Secondary school learners from Watershed College engaged in deeper conversations with HIT academics, gaining valuable insight into the institution’s diverse undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
HIT, known as Zimbabwe’s Innovation and Technopreneurial University, has long positioned itself at the forefront of applied research and technology education. The institution’s open-door policy for primary and secondary schools reflects its broader vision of cultivating a technologically literate society, beginning with learners at the earliest stages of their academic journeys.
Staff accompanying the visiting groups praised the professionalism and enthusiasm of HIT’s hosts, noting that the exposure to real research environments was unlike anything available within standard school curricula. The tour is expected to inspire a new wave of applications from Watershed College students considering HIT for their tertiary education.
HIT continues to welcome educational institutions interested in touring its campus and facilities. Schools and organisations wishing to arrange visits are encouraged to contact the Communications Advancement and International Relations office directly at communications@hit.ac.zw or call +263242785959.
