The Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) has once again distinguished itself on the national stage, with Vice Chancellor Prof. Q.C. Kanhukamwe being honoured as 1st Runner-Up in the Top State University Vice Chancellors category at the 2026 Performance Contract Signing and Awards Ceremony held on 16 March 2026 at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC).
The prestigious ceremony, now in its sixth year, was presided over by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, in the presence of Vice Presidents Dr Constantino Chiwenga and Dr Kembo Mohadi, Cabinet Ministers, senior government officials, and heads of public sector institutions.
The award is a resounding recognition of Prof. Kanhukamwe’s exceptional leadership and HIT’s steadfast commitment to academic excellence, technological innovation, and its contribution to Zimbabwe’s national development agenda.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Mnangagwa commended the dedication shown across the public sector, saying: “As Government, we all have a duty to implement, deliver and impact the lives and livelihoods of our fellow citizens. I am pleased that the public sector in general is showing higher levels of patriotism, servant leadership, hard, honest work, unity of purpose, professionalism and selfless service for the benefit of all our communities.”
The President further emphasised that the signing of performance contracts represented new obligations to ensure accountability, excellence, and results-oriented leadership across all government institutions.
The Performance Contract framework, introduced by the Second Republic in 2021, is a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s public sector reform agenda, designed to foster measurable accountability and drive progress towards the country’s vision of achieving an Upper-Middle-Income Economy status by 2030 (Vision 2030), under the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).
HIT joins the nation in celebrating this milestone and reaffirms its vital role in the national Industrialisation and Modernisation Agenda. The university remains steadfast in its mandate to develop, incubate, transfer, and commercialise technology; to cultivate high-tech enterprises; and to empower individuals with advanced technical skills.
HIT is also committed to being a central engine of innovation and human capital development, directly contributing to the nation’s growth and unity through tangible advancement.
Congratulations, Prof. Q.C. Kanhukamwe, Makorokoto, Amhlope!
