The Communications and International Relations Department (CIR)

As the custodian of the Harare Institute of Technology Brand, the Communications and International Relations Department communicates with clarity and integrity the institutional mandate, destiny, cause, calling, values, goals, achievements, future outlook, community activities, events, academic programmes and other services of the Harare Institute of Technology –  its students, alumni, faculty, staff and administrators to the media, the public as well as all the stakeholders in a timely, reliable and accurate manner.

Statement of commitment

The Communication and International Relations Department shall communicate with clarity and integrity the institutional mission and goals, its achievements and future outlook, community activities, events, academic programmes and services of the Harare Institute of Technology, –  its students, alumni, faculty, staff and administrators to the media, the public and the HIT community in a timely, reliable and accurate manner.

Goals

The Department of Communication and International Relations, in consultation with the Office of Vice Chancellor:

  • develops and coordinates communication campaigns, dissemination and packaging of information to the public; and develop marketing and PR strategies;
  • improves communicative competence;
  • develops communication plans for providing information to the public and coordinate their implementation
  • raises awareness of the Institute among close constituencies as well as the general public
  • interests persons/agencies/institutions in supporting and entering into  partnership with the institution
  • Maintains and promotes the HIT Brand

International Relations

Through its Strategic Plan, Designing the Future, Vision 2020, HIT has set strategic networking and establishment of partnerships as one of its key performance areas. The University, therefore, seeks collaborations with world class universities in order to develop first class infrastructure and standards, benchmark HIT with the best Science and Technology universities, support new graduate studies, exchange academics, students and non-teaching staff, support research that can make a major global impact, produce outstanding graduates who are responsible citizens and who can become global leaders as well as accelerating the development and application of technology in consonance with the industrialisation of Zimbabwe.


Key Result Areas for International Relations Office

  • Tracking international events and conference and strategically link them to HIT
  • Internationalising HIT programmes and activities
  • Developing bouquet of events and activities for international visitors
  • Help affiliate, accredit HIT, staff and students to international bodies and associations
  • Liaising with national bodies and promote Zimbabwean culture and symbols.
  • Serving as a point of contact for exchange students, staff and visitors
  • Ensuring international programmes align to national programmes and symbols
  • Help affiliate HIT ethos to national art and culture
  • Monitoring implementation of MoUs and MoAs
  • Facilitation of international travel and visits
  • Provide Institute departments with consular advice
  • Ensure HIT members get oriented to particular countries’ culture and services before departure
