HIT JOINS THE WORLD IN COMMEMORATING INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

“CELEBRATING HIT WOMEN”

The Harare Institute of Technology is joining hands with the rest of the world today in commemorating International Women’s Day which is running under the theme “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality.”

Coincidentally this year‘s theme resonates with the HIT mandate of development, incubation, transfer and commercialisation of technology for rapid industrialisation, and today we are celebrating women in this terrain.

International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality and at HIT today we say, “What men can do, women can do too or even better.”- In light of that we are proud to announce that, at HIT we celebrate a female Board Chairperson Eng. Farai Mavhiya-Bhiza and are proud to announce that the HIT Board consists of 4 influential women, something which was unheard of in the past. In addition, we also celebrate a female Dean of Students and two Female Academic Deans out of five schools.

We again celebrate a female ICTS Director and a substantial number of females in the senior management team. We today celebrate a female Chairperson in the Engineering department who is also an Alumnus of the Institution and many other Alumni who have made it in Industry. (Fellow Female Alumni Please email us on communications@hit.ac.zw we want to celebrate you today and going forward).

WE today celebrate female board members, engineers, directors, managers, deans, professors, PHD holders, lecturers, administrators, officers, accountants, pharmacists, radiographers, technicians, marketers, graphic designers, clerks, security guards, ancillary staff and all other professions. For student enrolment we celebrate a 60/40 male-to-female recruitment ratio and aspire to do better. At HIT today we say AHOYI to women for taking up the challenges which in the past had always been reserved for men. Welldone, Makorokoto Amhlophe!

It is on record that HIT mainly offers STEM related degree programmes and the girl child has not been an exception in undertaking those programmes. In fact, they are giving fair competition to their male counterparts as you are going to see today in our Women’s Day Highlights.

William Shakespeare is famous for saying, “Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them”, but today at HIT we are proud to profile some of our Women who have ACHIEVED greatness.  While everyone in theirs lives has achieved something or are at different stages of development, today we applaud every woman for being a woman and for the diverse contributions that they have given to society. Fellow women today is International Women’s Day and HIT says, Happy Women’s Day to every woman out there!
