Rutendo Precious Kahari, a first-year Software Engineering student at Harare Institute of Technology (HIT), has been awarded a prestigious scholarship by the Postal and Telecommunications Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ).
The scholarship will cover her tuition fees, accommodation expenses, ICT equipment, and allowances for four years, providing her with a solid foundation for her academic and professional pursuits.
The scholarship was announced during the official launch of the ICT Scholarship Programme and Stakeholder Engagement event, held on November 7, 2023, at POTRAZ’s headquarters in Mount Pleasant, Harare.
Dr. G.K Machengete, the Director General of POTRAZ, emphasized the significance of the ICT Scholarship Programme, designed to support talented high school students from underprivileged backgrounds, allowing them to pursue STEM programmes at the university level.
Rutendo’s selection for the scholarship is a testament to her exceptional academic achievements and potential in the field of Software Engineering. The scholarship will enable her to achieve her aspirations and contribute to the development of the ICT industry in Zimbabwe and beyond.
Accompanied by Mrs. Rachel Chikoore, the Dean of the School of Information Science and Technology at HIT, Rutendo’s attendance at the event signifies the importance of the scholarship to her and her academic journey.
Additionally, the recent collaboration between POTRAZ and HIT to conduct research and development on cyber-security and data protection further emphasizes the two institutions’ commitment to enhancing the ICT industry’s potential in Zimbabwe.
