The Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) has entered into a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Seoul Cyber University (SCU) of South Korea, marking a significant step toward strengthening international academic collaboration and innovation.
The agreement, signed by HIT Vice Chancellor Professor Quinton C. Kanhukamwe and SCU President Dr Lee Eun-joo, aims to enhance cooperation in education, research, and cultural exchange. The partnership focuses on joint academic programmes, faculty and student exchanges, collaborative research, and the sharing of technological expertise.
Within the scope of cooperation outlined in the MoU, HIT and SCU will collaborate to foster mutual understanding through joint seminars, workshops, and conferences. The institutions also plan to facilitate student internships, exchange academic materials, and develop cross-cultural learning opportunities.
The methods of cooperation include faculty and student exchanges for teaching and research, joint research projects and academic events, the development of interdisciplinary programs and workshops, as well as the exchange of academic publications and materials.
Both universities have agreed to respect intellectual property rights arising from joint activities, ensuring that ownership and usage are clearly defined in future agreements. The MoU also emphasises the importance of confidentiality and the responsible handling of shared information.
The agreement will remain valid for three years from the date of signing, with provisions for renewal or termination upon mutual consent. It represents a shared commitment to advancing higher education and fostering innovation across borders.
In a joint statement, the institutions expressed optimism that the collaboration would “promote global academic excellence and contribute to the development of both nations through education, research, and technology transfer.”
Seoul Cyber University (SCU) was established in 2000 as the first online university in South Korea, and has been highly regarded to be the number one University to represent the Korean online education. It is SCU that has set the foundation and the standard for the online educational platform over the past decade.
This partnership underscores HIT’s growing international footprint and SCU’s dedication to global academic engagement, setting the stage for a dynamic exchange of knowledge and innovation.
