HIT Crowned Champion at Inaugural SECZim National CodeFest

The Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) has cemented its reputation as a leader in innovation and hands-on practical education after a stellar performance at the prestigious Securities and Exchange Commission of Zimbabwe (SECZim) Universities Competitions, held at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) on Friday, 06 February 2026.
The competition, which brought together four of the nation’s top universities, challenged each institution to develop and present two critical regulatory technology (RegTech) systems: a Prudential Risk-Based Supervision (PRBS) system and an Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Risk-Based Supervision system.
Demonstrating exceptional skill, collaboration, and technical prowess, the HIT team emerged as the OVERALL WINNER in the demanding PRBS system category. Adding to this glory, HIT secured the position of RUNNER-UP in the AML Risk-Based Supervision system category. This dual achievement underscores HIT’s comprehensive strength in developing cutting-edge financial regulatory solutions.
The victory was a true collaborative effort, blending academic expertise with fresh student innovation. The team was composed of four dedicated staff members and six brilliant students, working seamlessly to design and present their solutions.
The winning HIT team comprised four (4) staff members and six (6) students: Dingilizwe Jacob Nkomo, Tawanda Laston Makombe, Edington Shumbashava, Stephen Tatenda Tinofirei, Respect Vudzijena, Obert Chahele, Mawire Portia, Tapiwa Mudhara, Munashe Stabnashia Nzira, Peshel Gomo, Tanaka Chabuda, Plaxcedia Mahundi, Mercy Kudzanai Kwendesa, Andiswa Taonashe Dube, Mercy Gapara, Matsairire Ellen, Divine Kuki, Tatenda Chirovamavi, and Joseph Duri.
This outstanding achievement is a testament to the talent and hard work of HIT students and staff. Italso highlights the practical relevance of our HIT’s academic programmes and its commitment to addressing real-world challenges in the financial sector through technology.
