The Harare Institute of Technology Staff Sports Association (HITSSA) made a remarkable start, securing numerous medals in various track and field events at the ongoing 2024 Chancellor’s Games at the University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Bulawayo.
The Institute’s athletic team made an indelible impression on the competition, exhibiting their exceptional sporting abilities and unwavering commitment to fitness.
John Serere clinched silver medals in the men’s javelin and shot put events, while Kumbirai Mutombeni earned a silver medal in the women’s shot put category. Tapiwa Duri emerged as the gold medalist in the shot put event, while Gaylord Mariki, Vincent Kanhukamwe, and Wilson Nyamhosva secured bronze medals in the 100m men’s relay.
Rosina Sedze secured a bronze medal in the women’s walk race, while Tecla Chiwaya won a bronze medal in the women’s 1500m event. Whisper Mukwada excelled with a silver medal in the men’s 100m event and a gold medal in the men’s 200m event, adding a bronze medal in the men’s 100m relay to their achievements.
The Chancellor’s Games commenced with a march from the NUST administration block to the stadium, followed by welcome remarks and athletics events. HITSSA is poised to maintain its exceptional performance in the upcoming days of the competition.
