What does it look like when a Zimbabwean student steps into one of the world’s most advanced AI research environments? For Tinomudaishe Mwarewangepo, a Part 4 student at HIT’s School of Information Science and Technology, it seemed possible.
Selected for the prestigious GCI Programme at the Matsuo Laboratory at the University of Tokyo, a leading AI research institute in Japan, Tinomudaishe was one of four HIT students to earn this rare global opportunity. Through the programme, he deepened his understanding of data analysis and the practical business applications of AI. The Japan trip went further, revealing how artificial intelligence is being woven into the physical world and driving a new era of entrepreneurship.
The knowledge he brings back isn’t just academic, it’s a blueprint for what Zimbabwe’s tech future could look like.
Applications for the 2025 GCI Programme are still OPEN!
This could be your Tokyo moment.
Deadline: 30th March 2026
