The Dean reports to the Vice Chancellor and is a member of the Senior Administrative team of the University. The Dean is the Chief
Academic, Administrative and Financial Officer of the School, and will be responsible for research and academic leadership; administration
and management; community outreach; income generation and financial management of the School. The successful candidate should be able
to lead in innovation and industrialization in the discharge of his/her duties. A proven track record of achievement in the above areas is
desirable.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Provide strategic management and leadership in the School in respect of teaching, research, innovation and technopreneurship;
· Provide direction in respect of strategic marketing, liaison and outreach;
· Planning and controlling in specific areas of Human Resources, Budgeting, development of academic programmes, departmental
equipment and related matters;
· Implementing resource mobilization activities to support university teaching and learning, research and innovation in the School;
· Spearhead the development of a quality culture in the delivery of all programmes in the School;
· Ensure financial viability of the programmes;
· Take a leading role in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of policy at School level;
· Promote research and collaboration with other Higher Education Institutions, professional bodies, research institutions and relevant
social actors at national, regional, continental and international levels for the benefit of staff and students;
· Lead the production and nurturing of high value business linkages and partnerships with public and private sector
organizations with a view to increasing the Institute’s contribution towards industrialisation and modernisation through
Intellectual Property commercialisation.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
· Arelevant PhD from a recognized university;
· Should have served as substantive Chairperson of an academic department or higher level;
· An appropriate technological postgraduate qualification;
· Atrack record of teaching, research and scholarship in higher education for at least eight years;
· Sound knowledge of the academic disciplines of the School within which the application is being made;
· Good knowledge and understanding of the higher education system and policy environment;
· Strong intellectual, organizational, systemic and leadership qualities;
· Experience in strategic planning, financial and human resources management;
· Proven attributes of transparency, integrity and teamwork.
Terms of Appointment
Appointment to the above position will be on a fixed term performance based contract for a period of four (4) years.
