The Harare Institute of Technology participated at the Matebeleland South Province’s Career Guidance and Counselling Exhibition held at Plumtree High School on the 17th of March 2023.
The event was attended by more than 10 secondary schools from Mangwe District and was graced by the Minister of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Honourable Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndlovu, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bulilima East Constituency.
The event was targeting O’ Level and A’ level students from Mangwe District as well as school leavers within Plumtree Town who are in need of knowledge about tertiary institutions and the programmes that they offer.
This Career Guidance and Counselling Exhibition was an intervention strategy to narrow the educational gap that was created by Covid-19 as well providing a window through which students can view the country’s available tertiary programmes as well as the career opportunities that exist ahead of their academic journey or pathways.
Its major objectives were to afford students the ideal opportunity for them to get first-hand information from different and relevant experts about the possible career opportunities ahead of them as well as enabling the students such as those in Form 3 and 5 to confirm the validity of their chosen subjects with regard to future career opportunities.
The Career Guidance and Counselling Exhibition was also aimed at motivating students as well as instilling enthusiasm towards studying and preparing for their examinations upon making sound decision about their future career opportunities.
It was also aimed to help raise the schools’ pass-rate upon instilling the spirit of self-driveness amongst students towards their aspired job opportunities as well as enabling those students from poor socio-economic backgrounds and those from remote rural areas to have practical access to their dream-tertiary educational aspirations.
